This rapidly growing start-up needed to hire several graduates, but faced a series of challenges in the process. The line manager was extremely busy travelling globally to meet clients, so HR found it very difficult to get feedback on candidates. Interviews were also challenging to arrange due to the line manager’s schedule and workload. Strong candidates had previously been lost due to delayed CV feedback and interview requests.
The client needed candidates with both a degree-level education and good people skills. They needed to be credible and ready for client-facing work. Previous interviews had taken place via other recruiters that had immediately failed to be a good fit, thus wasting a lot of management time.
Sigma worked with the client’s HR team to uncover specific issues as part of a recruitment review. We looked at the challenges listed above and suggested some process changes.
We changed the process to include a one-way-video interview. We also suggested a range of questions for the video interview that would be helpful for HR and the line managers involved, and we partnered with SparkHire to deliver a video interview solution to provide brief targeted candidate interviews.
The graduate talent was pre-screened by Sigma and suitable candidates were invited to complete the one-way-video interview. This sped up the process significantly because line managers did not need to meet with candidates who did not present well. They were able to review the interviews on their mobile phones from any location and worked with the HR team to rate the candidates using a star-based system built into the platform.
The need for a first interview was avoided, and candidates with high scores were invited straight to second interviews. Several offers of employment were made, and the candidates had a much better overall impression of the client due to the streamlined recruitment process.
