The Challenges

The client has an ongoing requirement for a large number of engineers and maintenance engineers but suffers from operating in a geographical area where competition for engineering talent is very high.

• The location led to a lack of ability to attract the right candidates, and this placed more pressure on the existing team. The added tension and increased demands led to higher staff turnover.
• Salaries had fallen below the location average, and the market had become very candidate-driven.
• Existing recruitment process was slow and not fit for purpose. The client often missed out due to being too slow to make job offers.

The Solution

Sigma worked with the client’s HR business partners to provide salary benchmarking for similar maintenance engineering roles with other companies in the local area, in order to address the pay-based challenges with their hiring. We also worked on streamlining and improving their recruitment process.

• Sigma Recruitment conducted an extensive feedback survey by speaking to candidates with relevant skills. This feedback was presented to the client in order to provide evidence that the salaries on offer were not competitive enough.
• Sigma streamlined the client’s recruitment process building a list of crunch questions for each position. Time to offer was reduced to within 14 days of CV presentation.

The Results

The faster recruitment process meant that more often than not the client was the first company to pitch an offer, acceptance rates dramatically improved.

The client improved salaries as a result of the salary benchmarking feedback, this boosted their appeal in the market.
