Medical device companies require medical recruitment agencies for key people.

As with many sectors, the manufacturing of medical devices faces pressures on the supply chain and the need to evolve its processes. Quality is critical in this space and therefore recruiting candidates through medical recruitment agencies who understand the challenges and can deliver transformation is central to ongoing success.

To produce exceptional medical devices requires exceptional skilled talent. They need to meet quality parameters as well as regulatory requirements. With so much at stake, no one can afford to have candidates who don’t have the right skills or a recruitment process that wastes time and money. Not all medical recruitment agencies understand what is needed in this sector.

As medical device recruiters with an 18-year history of delivering for our manufacturing clients, we understand your issues. The good news is that we can resolve many of your recruitment challenges faster than you will have experienced in the past.

Case Study

The Client

Sigma Recruitment has been working under an exclusive arrangement for a medical device manufacturer managing a large-scale expansion. The client has experienced significant growth in recent years, and our team has been there to support their ongoing recruitment needs. Roles have included a mix of graduate-level positions, experienced medical device professionals and a director-level position.

The Challenges

There is not a great deal of talent within the client’s sector and region, and the vast majority of available candidates are working with one of a few local companies who pay very high salaries and offer good benefits.

The client’s salary bandings are consistently lower than their competitors, making it difficult to attract people to their roles. The client’s benefits package is also less desirable than other competitors. However, the client is still insistent on high-quality candidates. They require very specific skills and experience to meet their needs.

As happens quite often, there was some confusion in terms of the information we initially received from the client about the details of the situation.

The Solution

To ensure we fully understood the key points in their specifications, we first focussed on a critical qualification call. For this position, we received a brief from their HR team and a salary banding that made it very difficult to produce a viable selection of candidates. We were able to find three candidates to present, but we had concerns over each of them and the client verified that they were not a good fit.

We started over again and began with a re-qualification call that included the person who would manage the new hire. This led to a new brief, which involved considering candidates outside of the original sector. It also included a very large change to the salary banding.

We launched a new advertising campaign to attract candidates from outside of the client’s sector. From the refined approach, we provided a shortlist of eight new candidates for the client to consider – three were working outside of the industry, one had good industry experience but was more of a development option, and four had experience within their industry, but were not originally interested due to the salary.

The Results

Three candidates were invited to interview from the shortlist, and two moved on to a second stage interview, which resulted in a final hire. After working through the recruitment process for the director level role, we’ve since made sure we involved the hiring manager on our initial qualification call, reducing frustration for the client’s team and eliminating miscommunications with their needs and requirements.
