A digital city, fully connected through the construction of a fibre optic infrastructure project is being planned for Newport.
CityFibre, a designer, builder, owner, and operator of fibre optic infrastructure in UK towns and cities, has entered a partnership with Logicalis to construct a “Community Safety Network” – a high capacity resilient pure fibre ring – in Wales’ third largest city. The project was awarded under the UK’s Public Services Network (PSN) framework and is the first for CityFibre in Wales.
CityFibre builds and operates ultrafast pure fibre networks that bring the huge benefits of Gigabit connectivity to communities throughout the country. The company assists by increasing governmental efficiencies, bringing educational capabilities up to world-class standards and improving healthcare through digital infrastructure.
The initial fibre deployment in Newport will connect more than 40 sites and will be designed to accommodate the growing community safety estate. The network will allow Newport City Council to harness future smart technologies as the city evolves, including ultra-high definition CCTV, digital information boards, and traffic and alarm monitoring applications.
