Build Your Career at the Forefront of Scientific Discovery
Markes and SepSolve are leaders in advanced analytical solutions, and both are part of Velaris, a global laboratory automation platform backed by the investment firm Battery Ventures. Markes designs and manufactures the technology, and SepSolve, its subsidiary, extends it with advanced separation and detection systems. Together they empower laboratories worldwide to solve complex scientific challenges. With primary UK operations in Bridgend and Peterborough and technical centres across the USA, Germany, and China, they sit at the heart of innovation in gas chromatography (GC) and mass spectrometry (MS).
They are building a team of talented, curious, and driven individuals who are passionate about making a difference through science. This is your opportunity to join a world-class group and contribute to global advancements in environmental compliance, product quality, and public safety.
About the Companies: A Synergy of Expertise
Markes and SepSolve provide complementary technologies and expertise for the detection, separation, and analysis of complex chemical mixtures across many industries. Markes designs the sampling and pre-concentration tools, and SepSolve, its subsidiary, strengthens separation, detection, and data analysis. Together they deliver an end-to-end solution for chemical analysis, supporting industries that face challenges such as environmental compliance, product quality assurance, and public safety. Their technologies detect trace-level compounds, resolve complex mixtures, and streamline laboratory workflows, which makes them leaders in advanced GC and MS applications.

Markes
Established in 1997 in Bridgend, Markes designs and manufactures cutting-edge equipment for analysing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs) in air, water, soil, and materials. This commitment to innovation has earned multiple prestigious Queen’s Awards for Enterprise, for both International Trade and Innovation.
Its key technologies include thermal desorption (TD) instruments that concentrate trace-level organic chemicals, and air sampling solutions such as sorbent tubes and canisters. Laboratories use Markes’ solutions for environmental monitoring, workplace safety, materials emissions testing, food and fragrance analysis, and forensic science. These innovations improve sensitivity, selectivity, and automation in VOC and SVOC analysis.

SepSolve
Founded in 2016, SepSolve complements Markes with advanced separation and detection technologies, in particular comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography (GC×GC) and time-of-flight mass spectrometry (TOF-MS). These tools improve the resolution and identification of compounds in complex mixtures.
SepSolve also offers data analysis software, including ChromSpace, which simplifies the visualisation and interpretation of large datasets. Its solutions suit applications in environmental science, petrochemicals, food and beverage analysis, forensics, and materials testing. SepSolve’s focus on workflow optimisation and automation helps labs improve efficiency and accuracy.
Part of Velaris, a Global Group
Markes and SepSolve are part of Velaris, a global laboratory automation platform backed by the investment firm Battery Ventures. The primary design and manufacturing centres remain in the UK, with technical centres in the USA (California), Germany (Offenbach), and China (Shanghai), alongside an extensive network of global distributors. This reach means the business can serve its worldwide client base and provide world-class support, wherever the laboratory is based.
