Environmental Health & Safety Officer (EHS Officer)
Salary: c£30,000 maybe up to £35,000 for an exceptional candidate
The Role:
Manages the Health, Safety & Environmental function to ensure all obligations are met as set out in EU Directives, UK Legislation and Company requirements. Design and implement policies that meet legal obligations meeting industry best practices and striving for continuous improvement. Provide advice, guidance, training, support in all Health, Safety & Environmental matters to the business as required to meet Best Practice and UK Legislation.
Design and develop Health, Safety & Environmental strategies, policies, procedures & work instructions for the Company ensuring all legal and social obligations are met.
Periodic revision of Health, Safety & Environmental legislation and carry out Regulatory Impact Assessments where necessary.
Generate risk assessments for all relevant work activities and identify specific areas requiring specialist assessments e.g. pregnant workers, young workers, Display Screen
Equipment users, COSHH, etc assisting in the prevention of work place injury and accidents
Provide advice in Safe Systems of Work in relation to the use of equipment, plant, machinery, substances & articles ensuring the prevention of work place injury and accidents
Supervises the Occupational Health function ensuring KPI's are met in line with business requirements.
Determine liability & establish defence, when appropriate, for Employers Liability Insurance Claims assisting in managing the costs in this area
Devise & co-ordinate Health, Safety & Environmental audit schedules to ensure standards are maintained within these areas.
Review PPC requirements via co-ordination of emissions monitoring (external) and solvent management plans (internal).
Prepare & present monthly Health, Safety & Environment reports to the senior management team
Monitor budgets for Health, Safety & Environmental requirements including waste management costs, PPE costs, Occupational Hygiene monitoring etc.
Develop and deliver Health, Safety & Environmental training programmes e.g. induction, emergency drills, waste awareness etc.
Drive continuous improvement with regards to the Health, Safety & Environment management systems through project programmes and monthly committee meetings.
The Candidate:
Candidate must have experience in an Environmental role / Health & Safety management role within a manufacturing environment.
Experience of ISO 14001/ 2004 essential
Experience of ISO 18001 advantageous
Degree in Environmental / Health & Safety discipline is preferred
NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent.
The Environmental Health & Safety Officer (EHS Officer) / Environmental Health & Safety Advisor
